Notes about Data Merges
"Merges" are data files with all the measurements from a flight averaged
to a common time base. The programs I'm using for merging are based on
IDL programs written by Martin Schultz formerly of Harvard University
(Martin's web page).
Some cautions about data in the merges:
-
For the preliminary data, I will be including all data in all merges,
regardless of measurement sampling times. This means that samples that
were taken for longer than the merge interval will be included in all merge
intervals that overlap with the sample. For the final data other treatments
will be considered.
-
Measurements with integration times much shorter than the averaging time of the merge
are also included -- any samples falling within the merge interval are included.
For example, the PAN measurements are made in approx. 1 sec samples every couple of
minutes, so a PAN data point in the 60 sec merge does NOT represent a 60
sec average of PAN.
Therefore, care must be taken in interpreting the data in the merges!
It is highly recommended to also look at the individual data files.
Currently merges are being created for 10 sec, 30 sec,
60 sec and 300 sec averages.
Merges will also be made to the HNO3 sampling rate, when data is available,
and can be made to other sampling periods. Let me know if you have
a request.
To simplify viewing, not all RAF aircraft parameters are being included in the
merges.
If your favorite parameter is missing, I would be happy to add it.
10 sec averages of all the RAF parameters are available in a
separate file.
